Drains to Tualatin River

ProposalStorm drain sidewalk mural, 4 by 10 feet2026

A design about the connection between the figurative and the abstract, and how we impose our human world on the landscape. The mule deer stands for the power and the delicacy of the natural world, and gives the viewer a character to connect with. Douglas firs frame the Oregon sky. The geometric border and the hand-lettered title work with them to make someone pause and consider how we occupy the land around us.

The Drains to Tualatin River design: a mule deer with a full rack stands at the right against a rain streaked slate sky, dark green Douglas firs and a pale creek winding across a deep green field behind it, the title hand lettered in gold above and below and a gold geometric maze border framing the panel, with a dark rectangular gap set into the lower edge.
Design
A 3D render of the design installed on a sidewalk slab wrapping a storm drain, the painted panel seen at an angle across the pale concrete with the deer, firs, gold lettering and maze border on its surface and the drain opening a dark slot along the lower edge.
